Cheap Laundry vs Professional Laundry in Patong: What is the Difference?

In Patong you can find laundry at almost any price. A bag that costs one amount on one soi can cost three times more two streets away. The difference is rarely the machine — it is what happens around the wash.

1. Whose clothes share the machine

This is the biggest hidden difference. The cheapest services combine several customers’ bags into one large load, because a full machine costs the same to run as a half-empty one. It works until someone’s red shirt or greasy work clothes end up next to your white linen.

A professional service washes each customer separately. It uses more water, more electricity and more machine time, and that is part of what you are paying for. If a price looks unusually low, ask the question directly: is my laundry washed on its own?

2. Sorting and water temperature

Fast, cheap laundry usually means one temperature for everything. Sorting takes time: whites and colours, heavy cotton and light synthetics, towels apart from clothes. Sorting is what prevents colour bleeding, grey whites and shrunken t-shirts.

3. What happens to stains

In a cheap service, a stained garment goes into the drum like everything else. In a professional one, visible stains are checked and pre-treated by hand before washing — sunscreen, coconut oil, food, red wine and mud all need different products.

No serious laundry will promise that every stain comes out. What changes is whether anyone even looked.

4. Drying and folding

Drying is where clothes get damaged. Too much heat shrinks cotton, ruins elastane in swimwear and sportswear, and gives synthetic fabrics that slightly shiny look. A professional service adapts the temperature, or dries delicate items separately at low heat when asked.

Folding matters too. Clothes folded straight out of a hot dryer keep their shape; clothes left in a pile for hours come back creased whatever the price.

5. What you are told, and when

A professional service gives you a clear return time, tells you if something cannot be treated, and answers when you message. That is worth more than a few baht per kilo when you are flying home the next morning.

So which one should you choose?

  • Beach towels, gym clothes, everyday t-shirts: a cheap wash is perfectly fine.
  • Light colours, linen, dresses, anything you would be upset to lose: pay for a separate wash.
  • Stained clothes: choose a service that pre-treats, and tell them where the stain is.
